The Wright State volleyball team wrapped up play at the West Virginia Golden Horseshoe Challenge Saturday night by falling to the host Mountaineers in three sets. West Virginia won the match 25-14, 25-18, 25-22.
The Mountaineers started fast in each of the first two sets, leading 7-2 in the first and 5-1 in the second. Back-to-back Heidi Splinter kills gave the Raiders a 13-11 edge in the third set, but West Virginia responded with a 5-0 run to go back in front.
WSU later tied it at 16 and 18, but could not regain the advantage as the Mountaineers held on down the stretch.
West Virginia led 41-25 in kills and outhit Wright State .266-.119.
Marisa Aiello, who was named to the All-Tournament Team after hitting .315 with 49 kills in four matches, had nine kills in hitting .333 for the Raiders while Splinter also had nine kills.
Wright State (1-11) hosts Butler Tuesday at 7:00 at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium.
