The Wright State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to host Marshall in the opening match of the Thunder Invitational Friday night in Huntington, West Virginia. The Thundering Herd won the match 25-19, 25-15, 25-12.
Four straight points, including kills from Marisa Aiello and Ashleigh Lucco along with a Natalie Catani service ace, gave WSU a 14-12 lead in the first set. The Raiders later went up 17-16 on a Heidi Splinter kill, but Marshall answered with four of its own to go in front for good.
The Thundering Herd then jumped out to a 9-3 advantage in each of the final two sets to take control as they hit .378 for the match compared to .128 for Wright State.
Splinter paced the Raiders with 10 kills and added seven digs while Aiello, in her collegiate debut, chipped in seven kills. Catani, also appearing in her first college match, had six kills and a team-high nine digs.
Wright State (0-1) wraps up tournament play Saturday with two matches, taking on Miami at 10:30 followed by IUPUI at 5:30.
