The Wright State baseball team trailed 2-1 early, but outscored Urbana 5-1 the rest of the way to defeat the Blue Knights 6-3 Wednesday night at Nischwitz Stadium, a game called after 5 1/2 innings due to rain.
WSU opened the scoring with a run in the first as Corey Davis walked, went to third on a balk and wild pitch, and scored on a Zach Tanner hit up the middle, only to see Urbana answer with two runs in the top of the second to go in front.
Back came the Raiders, though, with a pair of their own in the bottom of the second. A Kody Krizman walk and a Michael Timm double put two runners into scoring position and Krizman came in on a Kyle Mossbarger sacrifice fly. One out later, Jake Hibberd singled into right center to plate Timm and make it 3-2.
A Garrett Gray double and a Timm single produced a run in the third and after the Blue Knights tallied a run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-3, a two-run double off the bat of Tristan Moore in the bottom of the frame gave WSU a pair of insurance runs and rounded out the scoring.
Travis Hissong (2-2) went the first two innings for the win while Tanner Howell pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth for his first save. Lee Valencheck went the middle two innings.
Offensively, Tanner and Timm each had two hits and a RBI while Davis scored twice and Moore drove in two.
Wright State (28-13) returns to Horizon League play this weekend with a three-game series against Butler at Nischwitz Stadium. The Raiders and Bulldogs are scheduled for single games on Friday (6:30), Saturday (2:00) and Sunday (1:00).
