Senior Alexandra Brown set a league and school record in the 10000 meter run Friday as the Wright State track team opened competition at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships at Farmers National Bank Field on the campus of Youngstown State University.

Brown won the event with a time of 35:01.06, breaking the previous league record of 35:01.55, set by Loyola's Gina Valogi in 2013, and the school record of 36:52.51, set by Natalie Hopwood at the All-Ohio Championships in Cincinnati on April 15, 2011.

"Not having ever done a 10K before, I was really nervous going into the race," said Brown.  "Once it started, I tried to settle in and think of it as nothing more that a normal workout.  Afterwards, I was shocked!  I couldn't believe that I did exactly what I wanted to do!"

Gabrielle Markley is currently third through four events in the heptathlon, including winning the shot put with a distance of 10.90 meters.

The championships continue through Sunday.
