Baseball Plays at Xavier

The Wright State baseball team, after picking up three wins over the weekend against Horizon League foe Valparaiso, will play at Xavier Tuesday in the mid-week event.

The Raiders will play at Hayden Field Tuesday at 3 pm.

Tickets: Fans can buy tickets at the gate for $5 and $3 for children 3-13 while WSU students with a valid ID will receive free admission.  Groups of 15 or more can purchase tickets for $3 each.  Season tickets are still available for $40.00.

Raiders: Wright State, 12-6, 3-0, won three Horizon League games over the weekend at home against Valparaiso, outscoring the Crusaders 15-2.

In game one on Saturday, Raider starter Danny Sexton scattered seven hits and a walk in a complete-game effort, striking out five as he threw 92 pitches, 70 for strikes.  Alex Alders paced the WSU offense with two hits as WSU won 2-1.  In the first game of the Sunday doubleheader, Ryan Weiss (3-0) went seven innings for the win, scattering six hits while walking none and striking out three.  Evan Moores pitched the final two frames, fanning one.  At the plate, Adrian Marquez, JD Orr and Nick Weybright had two hits, Orr and Brandon Giltrow two RBI and Zach Weatherford two runs scored.  In the final game, Zane Collins struck out nine and walked none in pitching six shutout innings for the win.  Daniel Kreuzer, Alex Anders and Jeremy Randolph completed the shutout as each pitched a scoreless inning.

On the season, Seth Gray leads the Raiders with a .275 batting average.  Marquez leads the team with 14 RBI on three homeruns while Matt Morrow has driven in 11 runs.  On the mound, Sexton has won all four of his starts, holding an ERA of 0.83.  Jeremey Randolph has appeared in 15.0 innings for the Raiders over six games, allowing no runs and striking out nine.

Xavier: The Musketeers, 10-10, is coming off a three-game sweep over Ohio State, Saturday in Columbus and a doubleheader in Cincinnati Sunday.  XU is led by Conor Grammes, hitting .289 with 22 hits and two homeruns.  Joe Gellenbeck 15 RBI and 17 hits, including eight for extra bases. 

The Raiders lead the overall series 37-30.  WSU won both meetings last year, 4-1 at home and 8-3 at Xavier.

Next Up: The Raiders host Milwaukee this weekend.
