The Wright State baseball team had no answer against Valparaiso pitcher Dalton Lundeen as the Crusaders scored all three of their runs in the first in a 3-0 decision in the Horizon League championship game Sunday in Niles, Ohio.
WSU starter Casey Henn retired the first two batters in the first, but after Tanner Vavra singled to center and John Loeffler was hit by a pitch, Chris Manning doubled to right center to plate Vavra and Loeffler. Spencer Mahoney then tripled down the right field line on the next pitch to drive in Manning with the third run.
Lundeen (5-1) retired the first 11 Raiders he faced before hitting Garrett Gray with a pitch in the fourth. Cody Gardner was the only other Wright State player to reach base as he singled to left in the fifth and doubled to left in the eighth. The freshman lefthander struck out six in going the first eight innings before Karch Kowalczyk picked up his 12th save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth.
Gray and Kieston Greene were each named to the All-Tournament Team from Wright State, which finishes the season at 25-30.
