UIC pushed across a run in the top of the ninth for the only run of the game in 1-0 decision over Wright State in the baseball regular-season finale for both teams Saturday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.
The Raiders had an opportunity to score in the second as John Brodner doubled to right center and Jeff Limbaugh singled to left with two outs, but Flames left fielder Alex De LaRosa threw to catcher Alex Jurich in time to retire Brodner at the plate.
UIC then left the bases loaded in the sixth and seventh before producing the game-winner in the ninth on a RBI single up the middle by pinch-hitter Ryan Boss.
WSU posed a threat in the bottom of the ninth as Kieston Greene dropped a hit into short center to start the frame and moved up to second on a Garrett Gray bunt, but the next two batters flied out to center to end the contest.
Wright State (22-28, 9-12 Horizon) will be the #4 seed for next week's Horizon League Tournament, which will take place at Eastwood Field in Niles, Ohio. The Raiders take on Youngstown State, the #5 seed and tournament host, in the opening game on Wednesday, May 22, at 3:00.
