The Wright State baseball team led 9-7 in hits, but managed just one run as Missouri State won the middle game of the weekend series 3-1 Saturday in Springfield, Missouri.
Starting pitchers Joey Hoelzel of WSU and Matt Hall of MSU hooked up in a scoreless pitcher's duel until the Bears scored a run in the bottom of the fifth. The Raiders, though, answered right back with a run in the top of the sixth as, with two out and no one on base, Kieston Greene singled to left, John Brodner walked and Mark Fowler followed with a RBI hit to left.
Missouri State (29-18), however, went back in front to stay with a run in its half of the sixth and added another in the seventh to round out the scoring.
Hoelzel (4-4) scattered six hits and three walks in allowing two earned runs with three strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Logan Blair pitched a scoreless frame while E.J. Trapino retired both batters he faced.
Sam Picchiotti paced the Raider offense with three hits while Fowler had two hits along with a RBI.
Wright State (20-26) wraps up the series Sunday at 6:00 Eastern.
