KC Elkins scored a career-high 33 points off the bench, but it wasn't enough as Saint Francis (PA) shot 57 percent for the game, including 12 of 23 three-pointers, in a 98-81 decision in the consolation game of the Wright State Invitational Friday night.
St. Francis scored 10 of the game's first 12 points, only to see WSU go up 25-20 at the 10:42 mark with a 17-2 run, including six each from Kayla Lamotte and Elkins. Kim Demmings gave the Raiders a 28-25 lead with a three before the Red Flash tallied 20 of the next 25 points to go up 45-33 before Wright State scored the final four points of the half.
SFU scorched the nets for 63 percent in the opening 20 minutes, including five of 10 from three-point range, while WSU shot 38 percent overall and was six of 19 from behind the arc.
The Red Flash gradually extended their lead to 21 before the Raiders stormed back to within six at 78-72 with 5:37 to play. Wright State, however, would get no closer as Alexa Hayward followed with a three and added two more to push the margin back up to 91-76.
SFU continued its hot shooting in the second half, finishing at 57 percent overall and was 12 of 23 from three for 52 percent. WSU, meanwhile, shot 41 percent and was 14 of 40 from behind the arc.
Elkins led all scorers with a career-high 33 points for Wright State as she was 10 of 19 from the field overall, including seven of 13 on three-pointers. The junior guard's previous career best was 18 against Buffalo on November 18.
Demmings, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, added 10 for WSU, but no other Raider reached double figures.
Alli Williams, who joined Demmings on the All-Tournament Team, paced St. Francis (5-5) with a double-double of 27 points and 12 rebounds while Hayward had 23 points and Nickia Gibbs added 13.
In the championship game, Western Kentucky rallied from a six-point halftime deficit to defeat Florida A&M 71-57.
Wright State (5-6) returns to action on Sunday, December 30, with a 7:00 home contest against Morehead State.
