Brittany Persaud, who played for the Raiders from 2009 to 2011, scored the game winning goal for the Guyana National Team over Jamaica in an Olympic Qualifying game last Thursday.
The Westerville, Ohio, native was a scoring force for the Raiders, collecting 16 goals and 24 assists over her three seasons with WSU and played professionally in Sweden.
"I am very proud of Brittany and her accomplishments professionally since graduating from our program," WSU head coach Patrick Ferguson said. "It is a testament to her hard work. I think it is also a testament to our program in that we have had players move on to professional careers and National team opportunities."
To quote a portion of the local website, The Guyana Chronicle:
--Guyana kept up the pressure until Persaud scored from point-blank range.
It was the game winner by the substitute and it sparked wild celebrations on the sideline and even in the stands since Guyana was by far the crowd favourite.
With the win, Guyana will now join USA, Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Trinidad, Puerto Rico and Guatemala to see which two countries will represent CONCACAF at the Olympic Games in Rio.
This comes on the heels of former Raider Ini Umotong appearing in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada, playing the Nigerian National Team.
The Raiders advanced to the finals of the Horizon League Tournament against Oakland and finished with a record of 9-8-2.
