Trevor Gorman, who served as an assistant coach on the Wright State men's soccer team last season, has been named the new head coach at Albany, it was announced Wednesday.
"I couldn't be happier for Trevor in his attaining of this position," said WSU head coach Bryan Davis. "From his first day here at Wright State, it was clear that we would have a hard time keeping him. He is a tremendous coaching talent and I wish him the best."
Gorman came to WSU from Dartmouth, where he was an assistant coach from 2007-09. During his tenure, Dartmouth appeared in three straight NCAA Tournaments and won an Ivy League title in 2008. The Big Green posted a 32-17-6 mark while Gorman helped 11 players garner All-Ivy League recognition 18 times, including First Team All-Ivy League goalkeeper Sean Milligan in 2008.
Gorman came to Dartmouth from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, where he completed his master's degree in sports administration in 2007. He is a 2005 graduate of Penn State University, where he played for his father, Barry Gorman, on the Nittany Lions soccer team.
While pursuing his degree at UNC, Gorman worked for the Tar Heels' sports marketing division and his responsibilities included contract fulfillment, promotions and the Tar Heel Sports Network.
He also coached with the Sanford Area Soccer League in 2006 and the Triangle United Soccer Club from 2005 until his move to Hanover. He has worked numerous soccer camps including Penn State, Clemson and UNC.
Gorman also has a sports publicity background, having worked for the sports information office at Penn State, assisting with publicity, media relations and advertising. He was a public address announcer for NCAA Men's and Women's College Cups and the ACC men's and women's soccer tournaments. Gorman also worked as a sideline reporter for Fox Soccer Channel's college soccer broadcasts.
Albany finished 5-10-1 last season and 1-5-1 in the America East Conference.
